Suggestion: As you are not getting the consistent face time with your regular teacher during this period, please note that the term develop has been modified to explore and experiment. You will see further changes to outcomes associated with the School Assessed Task or media products that you are being asked at this time to explore new technologies, processes and aesthetics on your own.

What does this mean for using Cambridge Checkpoints VCE History - Russian Revolution Units 3&4 2016-20 and QuizMeMore to prepare for exams?

Your Checkpoints study guide is, as always, a valuable resource to assist in your preparation for school-based assessment tasks and the end-of-year examination. However, please note the following:

VCAA has eliminated the section relating to the experiences and responses of different social groups.

This means that you may choose not to make use of Chapter 12, 'The revolutionary experience of social groups and their responses,' in 2020 only.

If you have any further questions, seek clarification from your classroom teacher.

Specific information for 2020

Changes to the 2020 study design:

In 2020, due to the impacts of COVID-19 on schooling, the VCAA is using a modified study design.  For a copy of this modified study design please go to:

There is no change to the format of the French examination. The oral examination will still take place sometime between Monday 12 October and Sunday 8 November. The written examination will take place sometime between Monday 9 November and Wednesday 2 December.

In terms of coursework assessments (SACs), Unit 3 will now contribute 30 per cent and Unit 4 will contribute 20 per cent.

In addition, the duration of Unit 4, Outcome 1 has been adjusted down to 2-3 minutes from 4-5 minutes, and Outcome 2 will require a written response of 150 words instead of 250 words. The substantive content of the course, however, has not been reduced.

What does this mean for using Cambridge Checkpoints VCE French Units 3&4 2020-23 and QuizMeMore to prepare for exams?

For exam preparation, the practice questions given in Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are by and large still applicable to the style and format of the new written paper. We would suggest that teachers and students pay particularly close attention to Questions 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 in Chapter 7, since such reading tasks requiring extended responses will play an important role in assessment this year. In general, there has been a renewed emphasis on writing in the New Study Design, and the practice prompts given in Chapter 8 encompassing a wide variety of genres and text types will certainly prove useful in guiding students with their exam preparation.
